Prevention Program

The Prevention Program’s mission is to prevent out of home placement for youth and reduce the risk of child abuse and neglect. We provide services while assisting families to achieve their health and safety needs, family service needs, and youth service needs.
Best Suited For:
Youth aged 7-12 who may:
  • Have a diagnosed or diagnosable physical, mental or emotional condition
  • Have severe behavior problems, although not dangerous, which results in management problems in the home, school, and/or community
  • Be the subject of, or at risk of being the subject of a PINS petition
  • Be placed at risk of serious physical or emotional harm due to the parent(s) or caretaker(s) emotional, physical or financial condition, which seriously impairs his or her ability to care for the child
  • Have parent(s) or caretaker(s) become unavailable due to hospitalization, arrest/detainment, death, or unknown whereabouts

Program Services include:
• Small caseloads not to exceed 9 families per worker.
• Strength-based assessments and treatment plans.
• Individualized intensive home-based counseling through a minimum of three contacts per week per family, across a variety of service modalities.
• Educational/Recreational support group for youth offered on a weekly basis.
• Parenting and multi-family solutions group for youth and parents offered on a monthly basis.
• Crisis response 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
• Individualized respite plans.
• Transportation for youth and family service needs.
• Close linkages with schools and vocational programs.

Goals for service and treatment include:
• To replace PINS/JD and associated behaviors with more productive and socially acceptable behaviors and relationships.
• To reduce conflict between parents and youth and develop aggression replacement and conflict negotiation skills for family members.
• To enhance parenting skills and family education including:
› understanding of child’s youth and family development
› communication skills
› limit setting and behavior management skills
› problem solving skills, techniques and strategies
› role and boundary awareness and maintenance
› logical consequences of, reasonable expectations for behavior
• Strengthen family connections; enhance family satisfaction and productive relations.
