Non-Secure Detention

Best Suited For:
At-risk youth, ages 10-17, who have a
broad range of delinquency problems.
The Non-Secure Detention Program is rehabilitative in purpose and provides the child with a safe, healthy, and structured environment, until their case has been decided through final disposition of the court.

Education
Each child participates in an education program on campus four hours each day with the non-secure certified teacher. Tutoring is available each day for individuals who need extra help. The education program allows the youth to enhance their education skills through one-on-one instruction and help from teachers and staff. Part of the education program incorporates hands on participation of projects and high interest activities.

Cottage Program
Youth live and function as a group in the cottage. The cottage program consists of a comprehensive program of rules, expectations, responsibilities, and incentives for doing well. Residents have the ability to move to a higher level of responsibility based on positive behavior.

Staffing
The program is supervised 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with trained childcare workers. They work together as a team providing a non-punitive environment that emphasizes social skills, social competence, peer group process, and working on individual issues with residents.

Case Manager Services
The non-secure program has a case manager assigned to the cottage. The case manager provides individual and group counseling, maintains contact with the child's parent or legal guardian, constantly monitors the child's individual needs and goals, coordinates any necessary appointments to ensure that each child's needs are met, and is the liaison between the program and outside resources such as probation, family court, or other services the child might require.

Parental/Legal Guardian Visitation
All residents have the opportunity for weekly, supervised, on-campus visits by their parent or legal guardian. These visits are an integral part of the program. The visits allow residents to bond and continue to build relationships with their families.

Recreational Activities
The Non-Secure Program offers a multitude of on-campus activities that allow each child the opportunity of building team skills, self-confidence in themselves, and feeling physically satisfied about themselves. Arts and crafts are intergraded into the recreation program to draw out talents that each child might possess.
