Foster Care Program

Best Suited For:
Boys and girls ages 7-17 who are exhibiting negative behaviors, are emotionally disturbed, having difficulties in their home or surroundings, school and/or community, and behaviors necessitate out-of-home placement.
The goal of a resource parent is to provide a temporary or long term care of a child. Children in foster care will live in the nurturing environment of a family home and
participate in the community while receiving supportive care, treatment and supervision.

Program
The Foster Care Program is designed to provide a temporary home environment for children until one of the following has been met:
- The child is reunited with their family or living resource
- The child is adopted
- The child has the ability for independent living.

The specific goal for each foster child will have implications for foster parents
who receive the child for care. For the child to be reunited with his/her family, the resource parents will be expected to work closely with the agency, especially in planning visits that help the child maintain and strengthen the parent/family relationship.

Training/Certification
The training that resource parents receive during the certification process will enable them to work with children placed in their home on a level that allows growth in both the foster family and the child placed in care. The Foster Care Program will develop and maintain a core of trained, certified resource parents to provide effective care and treatment for children. Resource parents are trained to provide structure and supervision and in utilizing Therapeutic Crisis Intervention skills to further assist each youth in foster care.
All parents experience a group preparation and selection process before they are certified. They are also required to attend regular and frequent update training to refresh and increase their foster parenting skills.

Foster Family Boarding Home
The foster homes consist of a single person or family who has been certified and approved by the agency to care for not more than two children, except under such circumstances where two or more siblings are in need of foster care.

Respite Foster Care
Provides respite foster care when a resource parent needs temporary relief or additional support for a short period of time.

Emergency Foster Care
Provides emergency foster care services when a court or the agency determines the need to immediately place a youth in foster care.

Foster Care Program Support
Counselors are available 24 hours a day for the foster care program. Additionally, the foster care program has the ability to draw from a number of other resources in the agency based on the need.
